Cando, you need to understand a few facts:
While Lynas at present pays no company income tax in Malaysia it will currently be paying the local GST.
In addition the 630 employees will all be paying tax on their income. Take Lynas out of Malaysia and all that employment tax disappears with them. Plus include the taxes paid from economic value add from all the Lynas suppliers. No idea on the contribution from this source but we are told 4,000+ jobs have been created for Lynas suppliers by LAMP presence in Malaysia.
I am not sure how you can rationalise that Lynas leaving Malaysia would benefit Malaysia? Already we have been told a JV with Siemans did not proceed because Siemens were not comfortable with the political risk associated with investing in Malaysia.
In September Dr M reportedly visited Dyson Corp in London, presumably for the purpose to encourage Dyson to locate their new electric vehicle assembly plant in Malaysia? This was likely part of DrM's grand plan for a new EV industry for Malaysia. Dyson very recently announced they will be locating the EV plant in Singapore. Yes close but very different political security. Mcsh more expensive regime to operate a business but very obvious why this location was chosen v Malaysia. Thank minister Yeo, Fuzzy et al for this marvelous piece of economic vandalism.
Seems to me Yeo is a socialist. Economic thinking when making decisions does not feature on their agenda. Yes you may rate Yeo as an A. I have insufficient knowledge of her other achievements to counter your assessment However, with Malaysia basically a bankrupt country and now dependent on loans from Japan to pay the bills I would expect Dr M will be looking for decisions that are supportive of business from his environment minister. Decisions based on emotion and a socialist political agenda will invariably end in tears.
You may be right, Dr M could give Yeo an A grade and promotion to top of the class. Personally I believe that would be a very bad decision for Malaysia Inc. and not one that is in accord with the coalition plan to make decisions on a well considered economic and environmental basis. Emotion and politics should have no place in this process.
