Do you see this industry as a 'plenty of room for everybody' space or more of a 'to the winner\s the spoils'? Building a base of partners who know what they're doing and are interested in using\evaluating this tech lends an air of legitimacy. Put it another way, if a potential partner is identified because they are seen to have a need\interest for your product and they decline the offer, there's a good chance they'll fill that need with someone else's product.
