There is much going on regarding nuclear fusion and bit by bit the science will become a technology.

As a rule it takes at least 20 years before basic science has working models and applications, although it took around 100 years before Einstein's theory of relativity was applied to Global Positioning Systems in order make then accurate.

Until the time difference between a moving satellite and a position on earth was correlated using relativity the GPS would be out by a couple of metres or more.

After the GPS was accurate to within a couple of millimetres.

Fusion energy has been researched for a good fifty years and scientists are confident there will be a breakthrough by 2050 but as your article shows there are plenty of good signs.

Once we have unlimited energy we will be able to trap CO2 on a large scale and tie up the carbon into molecules that can have uses.

But till then we need to be careful not to let CO2 emissions get out of hand as if we reach a tipping point we could lose control of the climate and then we will have serious long-term environmental problems.
