Site preparation commenced at Ras Az Zawr in August 2005, with award of major EPC contracts schedule for the 2nd quarter of 2006. Major construction activities will be underway during 2006, with first DAP scheduled for production in the second half of 2009.

When in full operation, the Ma-aden Phosphate business will be the largest producer of DAP on a single site, and will enjoy full mine to market integration benefits. Ma-aden will be the world's lowest cost producer, and will produce almost 10% of the worlds traded volume for DAP.

Saudi Arabia holds some of the largest phosphate deposits in the world, located mainly in the north and northwest regions of the country. The impressive Al-Jalamid deposits are estimated to hold several hundred million tonnes. According to Ma-aden, this deposit will allow for the economic exploitation of phosphates for around 20 years.
