Volume today for HTW was a massive 76k. You're right Theman there is a huge stampede of people moving to HTW! :-)
There is a huge market out there and no reason why both HTW and VCR can both be very successful. What we are seeing is specialisation in the respective company's R&D efforts. HTW concentrating on smaller lower output devices and VCR concentrating on TETS (which appears to be more advanced than HTW's TETS development) and also more sophisticated software / controllers and usability.
The main question mark is whether there is a clinical application for HTW's smaller lower output devices which presumably will be implanted in healthier patients. Theoretically it sounds good but remains to be proven.
Another factor is infrastructure and production rate. HTW are implanting a little over 1 / month with no increasing trend in the last 12 months. Whereas VCR is accelerating their implant rate at close to 25 per month now. I believe VCR's facilities have the capacity to manufacture up to 50 devices / month.
