Subsidies are being reduced and/or removed over time. Sure, in the early days renewables were heavily subsidised as are many other industries in their infancy.
What about State govts. hindering expansion of publicly owned powerstation in support of privately owned powerstation as starter.
Coal fired station had penalties for being coal fired, with renewables getting extra subsidies which is well above what one would call as being R&D allocation.
