Sugar has been classified as a drug. Rightly so. It's highly addictive. Abuse of it has lead to rocketing rates of obesity, diabetes, research is linking it to cancer and so forth. Tobacco, alcohol, sugar - all very bad and very legal. Of the three, alcohol is the only one to cause immediate death via overdose - which is something that cannot be done with cannabis. Why is alcohol still legal? Is it because the culture loves a good drink, regardless of the health effects. Do people generally feel that, sure, some people abuse it, but most of us only have a few beers on the weekend? As a society, should we be banning things that are bad, or just let people have the choice of using bad things if they so desire? I'm generally for the latter, although I'd like to see chronic smokers and the morbidly obese lose free health care due to their self inflicted situations
