There were only around 250 Aboriginal nations, with a population of around 160,000, probably a little more and most spoke a different dialect!!! Neigbouring tribes could basically communicate and they had the sense to marry between tribes.  They had their own territories but in no way did they recognize the ownership of land, for individuals!!!  Often there were tribal battles if one tribe moved in on an others territory!!

Primarily, they were hunter gatherers, with a couple of tribes that may have farmed to a degree. One in particular, a tribe in Victoria who farmed eels, they also had permanent stone dwellings with grassed roof tops! Aboriginals in the north of Australia came under the influence of the Torres Strait Islanders, who owned their land (hence Mabo) with farming practices but the northern Aborigines didn't really take to these practices!!

These days the majority of those claiming to be Aboriginal have a degree of white blood and therefore are not truly Aboriginal but do so to receive what ever benefits obtainable!!! Aboriginal welfare has become an industry promulgated by the disingenuous left in this country and to the determent of Aboriginals wishing to better them selves!
