Personally... I suspect there is substance to that rumour. China is responding by internally supporting its economy with liquidity, which shows they are determined to tough it out. Meanwhile the evidence is growing that the trade war is hurting the US in the greater degree. [Also ... for China this confrontation is more existential in nature for them , so of course they will fight harder]. I have quietly thought for a little while that it is the US which will be seeking the face saving exit from this.
