I've pulled out "The Frank Muir Book" for a second read. As usual the first read circa 1980s will have been too cursory. It's a social history, divided into areas such as music, literature, art, food& drink etc and then made up of countless quotations linked by Muir's own thoughts & observations. Seems like an odd book for someone who made his living mainly as a comedy script writer for radio & tv (in partnership with Dennis Norden). But he is a very well read & creative man.
