There is one part of recent announcements that is perplexing me a bit and that is they are considering processing ore from Taronga at Granville. I own alot of gold stocks and at times they truck ore from one mine area to another mine area which has a processing plant. For example RMS is currently considering trucking ore from their Marda project to Edna May. This obviously comes at a cost, and it appears that it is unlikely to be profitable to truck their ore more than say 200km.
This is where i am perplexed. If it is not profitable for a gold miner to truck more than 200km, then what are the costs of taking ore from Northern NSW to Western Tasmainia, requiring a road distance of 2059km and a sea crossing. Or are they going by ship from say Newcastle to Granville ?
Now if it is purely not about costs or the processed ore making a profit but more about measuring the tin grade and recovery of ore from Taronga, then that may explain the consideration of transfering ore such a distance. But one would think that if they plan to do this with the entirity of the initial 50k tonne of ore from Taronga that the transport cost may be substantial and i would love if other posters with a better understanding of costs involved with transporting ore could give me some feedback on total costs per tonne.
