    polls are fickle. I wouldn't trust any opinion holding long term.

    Gillard dumped a publicly popular (I loathed the guy) Rudd as the government lost its way.  Hillard just crawled into power afterwards.  

    Rudd replaced the badly polling Gillard after many MPs said negative things about him due to ALP desperation.  The ALP lost.  

    Turnbull replaced Abbott due to bad polls and then lost the senate.  
    Morrisson replaced an even worse polling Turnbull after a failed leadership coup by Dutton.  The polls don't look better now.

    i can't think of one recent leadership change that helped its party.  

    When has a change over the long term improved prospects?
