polls are fickle. I wouldn't trust any opinion holding long term.
Gillard dumped a publicly popular (I loathed the guy) Rudd as the government lost its way. Hillard just crawled into power afterwards.
Rudd replaced the badly polling Gillard after many MPs said negative things about him due to ALP desperation. The ALP lost.
Turnbull replaced Abbott due to bad polls and then lost the senate.
Morrisson replaced an even worse polling Turnbull after a failed leadership coup by Dutton. The polls don't look better now.
i can't think of one recent leadership change that helped its party.
When has a change over the long term improved prospects?
Gillard replacing Rudd resulted in a (minority government) win for Labor.
Rudd replacing Gillard saved some furniture.

The Libs would have lost a lot more if they didn't change to Turnbull, (even though it was a lackluster win, it was still a win).
Morrison replacing Turnbull hasn't saved any furniture, and is looking like an electoral disaster for the Libs.
