Well Plooto,
The announcement caught my eye tonight. I think FMG should tread cautiously with the Ammonia route,
one needs to fully understand the composition of the Earths Atmosphere at the moment.
Whilst the idea has merit, Toyota and a small group of other Hydrogen Cell powered vehicles and the Oz Labour party think it's the ants, all may not seem to be the Ultimate answer to all forms of Energy generation.
All posters may need to consider the reality of the gaseous composition of the worlds atmosphere at the moment. Imagine if the world suddenly turned to NH3 membranes to release 3 Hydrogen atoms into a power cycle to produce H2O into the atmosphere at the exhaust. Where is the Nitrogen going??
The current atmosphere balance is demonstrated in one of many links, but all proven, one such link is
https://climate.ncsu.edu/edu/Composition
Note that the climate variable is the H2O percentage .. what will H2O exhaust gas emissions do to the Climate, what effect will Nitrogen have on the Planet. Nitrogen containing compounds in tablet form can be beneficial to people with heart conditions or help hair growth in humans.
Methane Contains a lot more Hydrogen ( one Carbon atom for 4 Hydrogen atoms), without the Nitrogen problem. Carbon is absorbed by plants and turned into oxygen at the and of the day.
I am definitely not a Greenie, but I am involved in the other aspects of the Greening of energy.
All I can say is that the Cleanest form of massive base load power is still Nuclear and that the Vanadium redox flow batteries offer the worlds best solution to household Energy Storage .. that's the real revolution and it was a Uni NSW invention about 20 years ago. .. read the history of it.
What's the answer, who knows, but all I can say is I still remember the 2 competing video tape formats in the late 1970's were the JVC VHS format vs the Sony state of the art Betamax. Sony had the best system, but failed due to market acceptance of the inferior JVC format.
Both formats were consigned to dust with the advent of the large video disc format a decade later and that was blown away by the mini discs,DVD / Blu Ray, etc etc ,and all are now blown away by the internet HD downloads. .. all in the space of 30 years. At least they had minimal impact on Climate change.
So what EV vehicle format is going to win in the end .. my bet is a stabilised solid state re usable battery to cause least impact on the Atmosphere.
FMG may be thinking about all aspects of energy creation with the least effect on the Global weather systems, however a good deal of research is required to slot into one that really counts in vehicle emissions.
CSIRO are researchers, however they are not infallible.
I like FMG as a company, but IMO caution is required in Green Energy Solutions long term. Good to see
FMG is very pro- active in the sphere , I would think much of their Iron ore ground may contain lots of Vanadium and titanium, especially if they have a large stake in Atlas. Not sure what the position is there currently.
Not being harsh, but that's the reality from my perspective.
Just my views as a potential investor
Cheers
