The big issue I have is will they integrate. By which I mean become Aussies. My Grand Father came out from Greece in the 1930's on one side of the family and my father the other side came out from Hungry in the 1950's. Both were not welcomed both were looked down on originally but as my Father points out he was just happy to have escaped communism.
The thing though is these immigrants culturally came from the same culture. They integrated with no problems. As have a lot of others including the Vietnamese in the 1980's. All were escaping from something and very grateful to be here. They knew the system here was superior to what they left behind. My issue is that we are now seeing immigration from cultures that won't integrate.
In fact they want to change our system. A system that has worked so well that we are one of the few countries able to boast of never having a civil war. No small feat guys believe me. I am seeing this desire to change our ways so much it has reached the point where we are now seeing serious religious and cultural splits in our society. We have not had these issues before.
That is something as an Aussie born and bred I believe we have to avoid at all costs. It is not our job to change our culture and beliefs it is there's to assimilate to our way of doing things. The main reason being our system works there’s does not or they wouldn't all want to be here. There are plenty of immigrants who would love to be out here and who would fit in and blend and add to our society.
I am not racist so please don’t assume I am. I really don’t care what background people are from or what faith they have but my issue is anyone coming out must be willing to accept the Aussie system and way of life. So far we have problems already beginning because our government doesn’t seem to understand the basic principals. I agree with an earlier poster the majority should get a say in immigration policy.
