if they decide they want to increase tax revenue, why should only share holders be hit, while people low income earners earning rent from property, bank interest, or driving Uber are still allowed to claim the first $18,000 earnings tax free.
there is no difference between a person being allowed to earn $10,000 bank interest tax free, and a person getting a $7000 dividend and claim back the $3000 tax already paid on it.
the result is the same, both earned $10k tax free,
except in in the case of the share holder, the government held the $3000 interest free for all the years the franking credits sat on the companies books before they paid them out with dividends.
