    All the gold in Fort Knox is worth US$194 billion.

    The capitalisation of Amazon, one single company is US$1 trillion.

    The notion that the gold the USA owns will save it in a crisis is quite preposterous, that's why owning it is 'traditional', as Bernanke says, a bit like owning grandpa's vintage car - a blast from the past.
