"The same public servants who were serving the Libs are still serving the present government.

By the way, it was the Labor government under Hawke which started Australia onto the path to financial reforms. "

    Thanks Mistyrains,
    Shows how dumb I am..
I havent a great knowledge of political operations ...
so what are the polies for if the public servants are doing the work? Do they just put their slant on the direction of policies?

I am starting to see the effects of Labour policy ie introduce international banks...and at the moment that looks negative because of the subprime effect hitting us.

Whats good now can be disasterous later especially if we dont have the regulators on top of things.
I am feeling that our amicable aussie ways are not protective or strong enough..

A public servant was featured briefly on the ABC tonight. the secretary for the treasury..or something like that...
I think we need to see more of these people and understand their importance.
CEOs of companies get millions ...what do these guys earn because we want the very best working for us.

Swanns budget initiatives to reduce with-holding tax for management funds and attract up to a trillion dollars from OS is great but at the moment our stockmarket is being short sold with shares borrowed from management funds and that is driving down the Shareprices to the extent that Aust companies are breaching loans and folding and having to fire staff.
Great to attract investment ..too bad we dont have the regulators to protect us and manage the markets.
ASIC is toothless and ASX is now profit driven and so at odds with regulating the market.

We are in pretty good shape but that wont last if nothing is done.Other countries are very decisive on issues..we are very complacent ..she'll be right mate.
Looking for some decisions and not an alcopop debate.
