Tell me, if what you say is true, what was it that they could not bear to hear when Jesus was talking to them, but they could bear to hear when Jesus has gone? What did they hear after Jesus had gone that was suddenly bearable?
                                                                  --------------
Kam, Jesus warned of the pressure they would face.
(John 16:1, 2) “I have said these things to you so that you may not be stumbled. 2 Men will expel you from the synagogue. In fact, the hour is coming when everyone who kills you will think he has offered a sacred service to God.
In spite of this Peter and the other apostles continued self reliant.
(Matthew 26:34, 35) Jesus said to him: “Truly I say to you, on this night, before a rooster crows, you will disown me three times.” 35 Peter said to him: “Even if I should have to die with you, I will by no means disown you.” All the other disciples also said the same thing.
Peter caved in under pressure because of his failure to pray for courage as Jesus had. - Matt 26:39-44.

(Matthew 26:74, 75) Then he started to curse and swear: “I do not know the man!” And immediately a rooster crowed. 75 And Peter called to mind what Jesus had said, namely: “Before a rooster crows, you will disown me three times.” And he went outside and wept bitterly.
It was a whole different story after Peter was empowered by holy spirit as promised.
(Acts 1:8) But you will receive power when the holy spirit comes upon you, and you will be witnesses of me in Jerusalem, in all Ju·deʹa and Sa·marʹi·a, and to the most distant part of the earth.”
(Acts 2:14-17) But Peter stood up with the Eleven and spoke to them in a loud voice: “Men of Ju·deʹa and all you inhabitants of Jerusalem, let this be known to you and listen carefully to my words. 15 These people are, in fact, not drunk, as you suppose, for it is the third hour of the day. 16 On the contrary, this is what was said through the prophet Joel: 17 ‘“And in the last days,” God says, “I will pour out some of my spirit on every sort of flesh, and your sons and your daughters will prophesy and your young men will see visions and your old men will dream dreams,

God's spirit in answer to Peters earnest prayer made all the difference just as Jesus said it would. Acts 1:14

John 16:13 However, when that one comes, the spirit of the truth, he will guide you into all the truth, for he will not speak of his own initiative, but what he hears he will speak, and he will declare to you the things to come.
