Over 5,000 carats of diamonds are presented at the first diamond tender in Antwerp - Lucapa

Lucapa Diamond, which owns a 70% stake in the Mothae mine in Lesotho, said it will present over 5,000 carats of diamonds at its first diamond auction, which will be held in Antwerp.
This auction will be held after last week the company sold seven large stones weighing 498 carats mined at the all-yearly mine Lulo in Angola, which the company owns by 40%, at a price that was $ 16.7 million; The average price per carat was $ 33,530.   
"The review will take place in the third week of February, and the tender will be held in the last week of February ...", said Rough & Polished CEO Stephen Wetherall.
Lucapa added that the special category stones mined at Motae were white and had a mass of 78 carats and 38 carats; Also in this list was a yellow diamond weighing 89 carats.   
Lucapa acquired the mine in 2017 and installed a new factory equipped with modern diamond mining technologies, in particular two separators with X-ray absorption technology (X-Ray Transmission, XRT) for the extraction of large and rare type IIa diamonds.  
The company mined more than 4,100 carats of diamonds during a sampling program conducted at the Motae kimberlite pipe sections, which had been incorrectly identified during the previous trial mining of diamonds.   
Earlier, Lucapa announced that the company intends to produce about 44,000 carats of diamonds at the Motae mine over a three-year period of commercial diamond mining.   
An independent resource estimate for Motae according to JORC was 1 million carats of diamonds, with a modeled average price of $ 1,063 per carat. This JORC score is the second largest in the world at an average cost per carat.
