The anti-Catholic hysteria being directed at Pell at the moment reminds me of the Lindy Chamberlain case ... remember that fiasco?
Because the Chamberlains were Seventh Day Adventists, everyone assumed they were guilty because they were members of a "weird" religious cult.
Crazy rumours circulated that the baby was some sort of a child sacrifice, and were lapped up by the average public.
It's important to remember that half of the population are below average intelligence and Australia's average is now lower that what it used to be.
