I have said it before and I will say it again.
"Reputational" damage may be but a mere blip in affecting the sp of such a large financial institution such as ANZ. Even moreso when it only involves about 1300 people.
Such issues come and go all the time.
Not unlike if ANZ were to proceed and finance the Gunns projects in Tasmania. So it aggrieves 1300 greenies and they make a song and dance about the matter, get a lot free press, close off all of their accounts with ANZ etc etc.
So what? They still have around another 3-4 million customers who don't care less about the Gunns matter, or in this case the Opes matter.
Institutions control the sp of the likes of ANZ, and the ANZ sp will only suffer as and when (a) the instos have cause to doubt the quality of ANZ's management controls and future direction, which in turn will lead to (b) they lower their weighting of ANZ exposure in favour of others in the sector.
No different to what happened to NAB following their problems with Homeside and the FX options fiasco.
