The fact of the matter is that censorship by the state is wrong.
Our country is more and more becoming badly governed by small minded politicians who are getting grubbier by the year. We really don't know yet how much pain we'll going to endure under the totally demagogic leadership of Kevin Rudd and Julia Gillard and their preferred nanny-state.
For a leader of country to become involved this way in such a small issue shows that he does have megalomaniac tendencies and he's got an overwhelming urge to tell us and direct us how to live our lives.
Now the posters in this thread are clearly broken into two sections - the ones who thinks art is art and we should look at it that way and the other who would lock up the artist (maybe even castrate him) and throw away the key.
Not one people on the thread actually have seen the exhibition, so their moral outrage is coming from reading the sensationalist daily media. Has any one of them have actually considered that perhaps these images are actually ART, not sexual imagining? Don't forget that what was perfectly acceptable behaviour in the 16th Century for example, became intolerable in the restricted 19th Century's England and Australia, etc. Then finally, in the 1960s (after the Lady Chatterley's debacle) people started to realise to look at life and art with different and open eyes and our World and our lives were able to handle that without any breaking down of civilisation as we know it!
But if we get down to the level of the moralising do-gooders and 'better-than-thous' again, we might just going to find ourselves living a seriously restricted and joyless life where only people who are happy to live in a straight-jacket will find happiness.
Long rant this, but again the main point: we can not let censorship rule. Goes back to the same simple arguments: if you don't like to see something, don't. Don't go to the exhibition, turn-off the tv channel, don't read offending material and so on. And if any one of you think that 'the overcoat brigade' (as some so ingeniously calls them) would go to an exhibition and that would be something that would entice them to embark on paedophilia, you are seriously deluded. Art isn't what corrupts people - the corruption of that that would corrupt us.
