In just 24 hours, our campaign has already raised $130,000 from 2193 small donations and had close to 200 volunteers sign up. I must say: I’m blown away by the generosity of Greens supporters.
This frantic investment shows exactly what we’re up against. The Liberal party is relying on the backing of huge corporates and the Kooyong 200 Club, a dodgy fundraising vehicle that funnels funds to Josh Frydenberg and has a war chest of over $500,000.
Unlike them, we’re running a campaign powered by people and small donations. And it's working. We’re in with a real shot here, but we can’t do it without you.
Julian Burnside
Greens candidate for Kooyong
PS: If history is any guide, these big donations to the Liberals will be made in return for favourable treatment during the next Parliament. These are exactly the special interests that pull the strings inside the major parties. We can't let them win, which is why I'll be campaigning in Kooyong to get the influence of big corporates out of politics.
