    "Normally when you replace a leader, you replace the unpopular person whose fate is sealed with somebody who is much more popular and gives you a chance at winning," Mr Turnbull said.

    Indeed, When Abbott was dumped LNP where well down in the polls and that had some one that was far more popular. The fact that LNP polling improved significantly and they finally got ahead in the polls vindicated the move.

    That was not the case this time, LNP where just behind in the, internal polling in marginal seats had them ahead and Turnbulll was way ahead in the popular polls. Logic suggested there was no reason to change leaders and doing so would be detrimental.

    That's why I didn't think the liberal party would be stupid enough to change leaders, but they did and the result is as expected and proves it was a dumb move
