Trouble is that traditional baseload capacity is decreasing as no new stuff is allowed!

All the new stuff is renewables which are unpredictable.

Clearly if there is generating capacity of 20% via renewables and 100% via traditional methods then there is a duplication.

The cost of that duplication is borne by the consumer.

How did you go with calculating the cost of battery backup versus the current traditional backup?

None of the current batteries provide any real backup at all. They are there to fix problems introduced by the variability of the renewables and all add to the cost to the consumer.
