Canaccord comments on DJNW:
Pilbara Minerals is seeking a partner to buy supply from the third phase of its Pilgangoora project, take part in a new chemical plant and possibly acquire a minority stake in the asset. But who could be interested? Canaccord notes comments by brine producer Livent that it would like to join Albemarle and SQM in getting a toehold on a high-quality Australian hard rock project. Albemarle recently did a deal with Mineral Resources, while SQM has committed to Kidman's lithium project locally. These overseas companies are responding to customer demand for battery grade lithium products, and want more diversity in where they operate. "We view balance sheet capacity, existing customer base and/or end use offer as key features in a partner that Pilbara considers," Canaccord says. ([email protected]; @dwinningWSJ)
