I've always had trouble getting behind that idea, it seems a bit too conspiracy theory. The SP was sitting between 1.6 and 1.8 for a while, I suspect this is just people deciding to take a small profit and spend their money elsewhere - or hope that IMU drifts south. People had grown used to being able to trade much larger swings, they might have to look elsewhere. Not much money changing hands here.
