The data in the society of thoracic surgeons (STS) congenital heart database.....
some 4% of all procedures are for the closure of an ASD (Atrial septal defect - hole in the heart)..approximately 4000 procedures reported over a 4 year period.
80% required the use of a patch and 20% were simply sewn closed (primary closure)......
So for the procedure that CC was kind of designed for, it will still be used for a vast majority of cases. So potentially, the majority of cases will need CC to be used.
