Gee that must be right up there with self flagellation for having impure thoughts as a method for effectively doing JACKSH!T other than breeding a generation of guilt laden and angry people who think that discipline comes from fear and threats.
Here is a novel thought, maybe you think your kids are model citizens because they fear you too much to show you their true colours?
Or maybe, as the fact of the matter is, the apple doesnt fall far from the tree, so if you think you are a good bloke and well adjusted, most likely so is your son. Belting him probably had nothing to do with it. Role modelling is the teacher here, not your strap.
Behaviour is coached, and the most effective coaching is not remedial, it is primal. Hence why so many children of broken homes or childhood trauma are emotionally damaged into adult life. If they don't have a positive role model around them in their formative years, no amount of belting them will "fix" them.
