could not have cared one bit about it's existence, about double the distance in the opposite direction was a hostel dealing with aboriginals with alcohol and drug problems, you would not known it was there unless someone pointed it out.

I have known 2 guys who had been in jail for murder, both decent blokes who by their homes, to look at and talk to you would not have a clue to their past and to my knowledge have done nothing but live normal productive lives since their release.

As for a pedophile living near me, for all I know there might be one already who may or may not have been previously caught, there might even be one living right next door to you.

Being told of their existence would make no difference what so ever to the way I live or common sense precautions I take with my children.
