It just starkly demonstrates the financial ineptness (ignorance) of most of our financial journos. They can not distinguish between the bottom line and the underlying operating results of a business, a distinction that can be made by any person with a a rudimentary knowledge of financial reports.
Or maybe it's really the fault of their masters who prefer a 'scary' headline to the facts. But, nevertheless, this attitude in a newspaper devoted to the dissemination of financial information is disappointing in the extreme. I expected better from the AFR.
Maybe these jornos should consider a career change with a tabloid like the Herald Sun.
