have you got a link to that AD news or the study please dachopper? I would be interested to read it. There is also a study researchers were excited about in the USA using flashing lights & clicking sounds. Can find that one again if anyone wants to read it.
I still believe that if Ph2 trials successful & we move onto Ph3, the IP will be snapped up quick sticks & regardless of whether MABs are successful or not in AD, that Xanamem will be a very useful drug in combination therapy.
I am also very interested in the MH side of use in Xanamem & this may have an even bigger market potential than AD if successful trials & in younger people, ironically also possibly preventing dementia, as MH is a risk factor. It would be great to hear from anyone here who works in MH & their perspective on patients when unwell?
One of the reasons for this, is that I see this in everyday life. My husband has rapid cycling Bipolar disorder, thankfully he is stable & took some time to get medications right, on combination therapy & even referral to Black Dog Institute from his very experienced Psychiatrist for a second opinion, because medication can cause issues too, & I know that personally, through so many drug trials getting things right, roughly 3 years. We have been through some very difficult times & his memory can be poor at times, life stressors & anxiety are a massive factor even when stable. as are many other things like enough sleep & a healthy lifestyle.
Mood disorders are more common than most people realise & Bipolar disorder has a very strong genetic link, as well as induced. Depression, whether reactive or endogenous has something like a 1:3 lifetime ratio, so pretty much we are all at risk.
There is nothing to be ashamed of with MH, many high achievers amongst us have this & have you ever wondered about superhuman energy & how people can achieve what they do? I just thought at first my husband was an extremely hard worker (hypomanic) & went through small bouts of depression, especially in Winter, light & seasons do play a part, so don’t discount light therapy etc, there have been many studies in Nordic countries & who doesn’t feel uplifted when Spring hits us?
An error in changing an antidepressant that wasn’t working inspite of escalated doses to one that should not be used without mood stabilisers in Bipolar (Effexor) gave us a definitive answer that this simply wasn’t depression, it induced a manic state (first ever for my husband) within 24 hours with urgent referral to a psychiatrist. He was a very caring & good GP, and although this was a difficult time to deal with, in hindsight I was very grateful for that lesson & it probably helped with a definitive diagnosis very quickly.
I hope that my post makes anyone suffering feel better that a MH dx is nothing to be ashamed of, stigma & judgementalism should never be an issue & the neurotransmitters in your brain are just haywire, & I put my hand up too to delayed Postnatal depression with my first child who got very sick post delivery with a nosocomial infection & made it through, but a very difficult baby for a very inexperienced young Mum. Wish I knew what I do now back then, the beauty of hindsight & I think that just gives you empathy for people, to pick up on what others may be going through & give support in whatever way you can in a caring way.
