The funny thing is that artimisinin isn't approved in Oz, or wasn't when it affected me. When in PNG I got malaria several times and each time was quickly treated with the "Chinese herbal remedy. "
Not so lucky however was a dude who came up for a 2 day job interview. Flew back to Sydney and died of the cerebral version because the quacks there didn't know what was going on.
The very caring TGA has however approved the US military developed drug Larium as a prophylactic. This resulted in in a number of psychotic events amongst the expats that were up there for short periods.
Didn't stop Aussie quacks from prescribing it but.
Strange old world.
