People who migrated to Australia often had next to no education. In their country of origin some were regarded as peasants doing manual work and struggling to survive under the thumb of the supremacist fascists like occurred in Italy, Germany and many other places. However, these unskilled people when migrating to Australia continued to work in for example manual labour. Yet in many cases their children in this new land were able to take advantage of free access to education and their children became doctors, lawyers, business proprietors, trades etc which tends to throw out the genetic determinant of success. Within families their may be difference, one sibling may become a cleaner or trades person yet another may become an engineer or doctor or lawyer. One may become a professional athlete another may for example have Downs Syndrome and therefore engages in different activity dependent on opportunity. All merit respect and all at the least deserve imo a living wage rather than be consigned to abject poverty.
It’s not black and white and there are also cases of people who built up massive business empires only to have them collapse and wind up living in bankruptcy and associated poverty. Some like that cannot necessarily take on a cleaning job because they may not be able to psychologically cope with that and sadly some even choose to end their lives when the wealth has gone. So I re-iterate poverty is not necessarily restricted to those of lesser intellect. Opportunity and good luck or misfortune can impact.
If a society becomes so broken the people cannot afford specialist medical care than even the medical practitioner could fall into poverty. So we need a system with safety nets for all citizens and a system that is not too skewed in favour of those who already have most.
