    don't care about dividends.
    I'd rather they reinvested the money to make more for us or buy back shares. BHP is way undervalued. - well said Jgo.

    A lot of analysts or traders with a contrarian bent look at bhp over a 10 year period, suffer a bout of vertigo and pronounce it has climbed too high. It is high because it pays tiny dividends which is tantamount to a forced dividend reinvestment, plus through the years (correct me if I am wrong) it may have done a buyback or two. A shareprice in the 40s is not overpriced as it accounts for all those dividend stream foregone through the years, and the anti-dilutive effect of a buyback . And going forward to 2009, it looks very cheap.
