Why are folks so ravenous about share price (SP) increase? I've been following this HotCopper thread for a while now, and it really baffles me.

If you're accumulating via dividend reinvestment or fresh capital - which I presume accounts for most shareholders, why would you want the SP to appreciate?

I'm in the process of accumulating and would love for the share price to stay at these levels or depreciate. We still get the same dividend payout irrespective of share price. The lower the SP is, the more shares our capital accumulates, and the more dividends we get.

This isn't a growth stock, nor should it be seen as one. The compound growth in your JMS investment comes from the reinvestment of a very generous dividend.

By all means, critique my logic if you think I'm off the mark.
