Following the restoration of four houses on Wittenoom Street, LMS Ministries, a not-for-profit organisation, has been nominated for a Heritage Council Award. LMS Ministries received management orders from the State Government for the four houses. One of these houses was refurbished with funding from a grant by Lotterywest. Michael Kiernan of Monarch Gold Mining Company and Mineral Resources Limited raised $450,000 for the project. Director of LMS Ministries, Robert Hicks, said the support for the project was overwhelming. “We couldn’t have done it without State Government support and the contribution made by the mining industry,” he said. The houses on Wittenoom Street will accommodate youth groups, church workers and chaplains who travel through town to visit schools and other organisations. The finalists and winners of the Heritage Council Awards will be announced by Heritage Minister Honourable Michelle Roberts at a ceremony today. DARREN JONKER
