I remember my Dad spending $250,000 on a house when I was a kid, and I thought he must be some kind of McMillionairre. $250,000 seemed like so much money, considering the one Mum and I lived in cost her $80,000.
$250,000 for a suburban house! It seemed like so much money.
Mum sold that $80,000 house 2 or 3 years ago for over $400,000. The $250,000 house doesn't seem so expensive now. But boy $250,000 was a lot at the time!
I also remember 600ml coke bottles costing around $1.50 when I was in my mid teens (ten or so years ago). They now cost around $3.50. For $3.50 I could have had a coke AND a pie back then.
When I got my P plates petrol was around 70c. I used to be able to fill my 60L tank and pay with a $50 note and have enough change left over for a bite to eat and maybe even a drink depending on prices. I felt cheated when I spent most of the $50 on the tank.
To say something is 'expensive' because of the $ amount attached to it is absolutely silly. Who knows, in ten years you might be lucky to find a house within 30km of any capital city for under $1 million. Then they will be saying $1 million is expensive. Fast forward another ten years and they will say the same thing about $2 million. etc etc.
