An excellent additional way of finding direction in any East Coast city, Ensor, is by Foxtel. Just look at any Foxtel dish on any house - they all point north within a couple of degrees, cos that's where the geostationary satellite is. Unlike astro, this little piece of knowledge is useful in clear weather or cloudy.
Just thought I'd put it out there.
