once again you miss and over look several major points, may have to do with those liberal supporter blinkers you wear

All manufactures now are required to provide fuel consumption tests that are conducted to Australian Design Rule ADR requirements. This is to standardise tests and prevent manufactures from conducting tests under totally unrealistic conditions.

Yes it maybe difficult to achieve the same results in real life but the degree they are not achievable would be the same with all vehicles and manufacturers, but is is a standard starting point to compare vehicles.

    next point

The government established the fund of $500mil to encourage developement of NEW fuel efficient low emmision vehicles

Fords LPG vehicles have been around for a few years, nothing new in them. Fords own website also quotes a figure of 15% reduction in emmissions, so based on the proice of LPG they maybe cheaper to run but they do not produce less emmisions were as toyota hybrids claim over 50% reduction

Toyota in developing a NEW fuel efficient low emmission vehicle will be receiving $35mil or 7% of this fund.

this still leaves another $465mil or 93% to be distributed to other manufactures developing NEW low emmission fuel efficient vechicles. Vehicles that maybe more efficient and lower emmision than what Toyota is planning.

And keeping in mind even the libs as recent as last Friday were calling on the state and federal governemnts to do more to support the automotive industry.

It is also important to keep in mind that what Toyota is building is really only a first generation alternative fuel vehicle. This is not the finishing point for alternative fuel vehicles but the starting point.

Would you prefer Australia be part of this new era and development or sit back and watch this development happen offshore where costs are lower and or incentives are given while our own automotive industry risks going the same way mitsubishi and holdens enging plant went.
