CFO summed it up best in Fin review:
TPG chief financial officer Stephen Banfield elaborated: “If we don’t have a technical solution, even if we wanted to, even if we had the funding, even if we had a business plan which made sense on the timing front, even if all those things [were the case], we don’t have a technical solution that will allow us to. So we are not building a mobile network.
“One of the most compelling things about our mobile project was the timing. We were building a mobile network that was due for completion next year. Even if there were a technical solution, and we were starting from scratch, it would take us a few years, and we’d be arriving so late to 5G that the business case no longer makes sense. So even if there were a technical solution available, which there isn’t, the business case isn’t there, and we don’t have the funding.”
