Dear Miles,
The numbers I have used for the LPG falcon were real world numbers! Don't you understand that real people pay out on real figures not ones based on a controlled study.
When you go net surfing for figures to debunk my views on the production of vehicles in this country you should take more care in reading the articles, lol, and not be so narrow on the focus of benefits of LPG.
LPG has 20% reduction in global warming potential compared to petrol. 80% less air toxics than petrol. 30% less smog forming emissions. There are no evaporate emissions from a LPG tank as opposed to a petrol tank.
The 15% figure is the total greenhouse gas emissions created in Australia that comes from road transport.
Where's the studies that prove a vehicle with both a motor and a $10,000 bank of batteries (replace every 10 years) has less impact on the environment than a standard dedicated LPG Falcon??
If the falcon is cheaper to run, how then will an Australian be any better off owning a hybrid knowing they will pay more at the pump and have an inevitable $10,000 bill to pay when it's time to replace the batteries?
All this and the proposed so called green vehicle is smaller!
The bottom line is this proposed hybrid will not be of benefit to struggling families or any more friendly to the environment than the the vehicle Ford have been building for years.
So what were Rudd and Brumby beating their chests about?
From where I stand it is a feel good populist political decision.
