personally i think the original subject line is deceptive.

there are many who believe in god and who have an extraordinary intelligence.

it may be that the people referred to in the subject may well be intelligent but it could quite rightly also mean that those people are more materialistic and have a superiority complex and the fact that the "intelligensia" often resort to ridicule and belittlement of those that do have a religious belief underscores and emphasises this.

as mentioned in the article it is a simplistic conclusion

recommended reading is "a letter from a christian citizen" by douglas wilson wherein he responds to an athiests "letter to a christian nation"

we have a religiously diverse society so what ethical standard should the law use for its judicial process and its moral judgements. what can an athiest appeal to? reason? then the athiest has just admitted that he is as religious as anyone else by elevating reason to a place of idolatry. the athiests' reliance on reason elevates man to the point of being gods themselves

an athiest by practising iconoclasm is just practising another religion but this makes them more dangerous in that they become delusional and place a false belief in a false system of worship and live in a constant state of denial.

at least those who acknowledge a religion also acknowledge their belief system.

to be free of religion is to be shackled in amorality

what we have here are secular humanists which emphasize the autonomy of the individual and the primacy of the intellect - empty in other words.

didnt nietzsche write in 1888 - "morality is not yet a problem,” and added - but it would become a problem, when the people discovered that without religion there is no morality.
