The Christian subtext, Briter, is that man, by nature, is basically flawed and will make a mess of this world, whether he/she is called Christian, Muslim, Buddhist, animist, agnostic or atheist etc.

A reading of the gross human rights violations in pre-1951 Tibet and the awful subjugation of the peasant class in the then feudal Tibet, by the extremely wealthy religious classes, or the present subjugation of the Burmese people of Myanmar in an overwhelmingly Buddhist nation (85% Buddhist) should disabuse the "intelligent" of any notion that Buddhism is any better at preventing the same excesses of all the other religions and ideologies.

As we know the hundreds of millions that were killed by doctrinaire anti-religious atheists like Mao and Stalin and a Spiritualist dabbler like Hitler during the last century makes all the killings spanning over recorded history, in the name of religion, seem almost insignificant.

Despite the I am/you are god theory, which incidentally has an interesting origin, I think that the Judeo/Christian idea encapsulated in the expression ". ..the heart of man is deceitful above all things and desperately wicked…” gives us the best rationale for why this war, violence, hatred and greed filled old world of ours is like it is. Sort of the buck stops with my flawed nature and me and 6.7 billion other humans who share the same nature.
