the way to stay cash neutral in these situations (well where the offer price was well below the market price the week before), would have been to sell down the number of shares you were entitled to (a week prior to close the price was ~50c) and then apply for the offer at 42c.

Given settlement is 2days and BPAY for the entitlement takes 1 day, giving yourself 5 working days would have been more than sufficient to not have to put up extra funds.

Obviously you don't get more shares, but 8c per share profit is a decent profit,

Even with that, I suspect there were a large number of shareholders that just did not pay attention - surprising for a small speculative stock with presumably mainly small retail shareholders....but it left more on the table for those who were paying attention.
