    Yes you can recondition/overhaul a rig. Linc had to do it pretty extensively. The problem is that it's rather like reconditioning an old car - if the rig is in really bad condition eventually you're going to end up replacing so many parts you might as well have just bought a new rig. Rigs are incredibly complex pieces of machinery and they are subject to immense pressures, from the ground, the hydraulics and compressed air.

    I have a favourite saying about drill rigs - it's like Murphy's Law (anything that can go wrong, will) but adapted to rigs: so many things can possibly go wrong that you can guarantee something will. An old rig will inevitably spend a large amount of time broken down as the various seals and hoses and other things start to break.

    Apparently rigs CAN be bought if you're prepared to spend the money. But a brand spanking new HQ rig you're looking at upwards of $1M. Linc probably bought theirs for only a couple of hundred thousand, then spent a lot more refitting it.
