The inferred conclusion in what you say is typical of a mindset that I often observe from Liberal supporters ie., that if you can't afford these luxuries, then you haven't worked hard. Some of the hardest workers I know will never accumulate wealth for a host of reasons.

That is such a simplistic and incorrect suggestion. The way I see it, if you are lucky enough that things have worked in your favour and you happen to earn large sums of money, then you should be willing to part with much greater sums of it to support the rest of society and the expenses that are incurred in running the society. Our tax system largely supports that concept to a point.

However, I believe that there should be additional tax brackets for people earning exceptionally large amounts of money eg, an increased percentage for earnings in excess of say $300k pa, a further increased percentage for earnings in excess of $500k pa, another increase for earnings in excess of $1m pa, $2m, $5m and $10m etc.

I see that as being fair and reasonable. To suggest that this line of thought is conceived from a dislike or jealousy of the wealthy is just convenient and simplistic. I just see it as being fair.

Surely when you earn amounts of money that will be used purely for extreme luxury, you can afford to give increasingly large percentages of your wealth in an effort to decrease the burden on the real strugglers??
