billy you are right that most who can afford it and have a smart tax accountant will pay little or no GST on their new car purchase. However they can't claim LCT as a deduction which is why the labor government are on the right track with this change. it's just that they should have discrimated the LCT rates on different vehicles , gas gussling vehicles taxed more to send a clear message about protecting the environment.
