DJ MARKET TALK: Buyout Group Eyes Babcock & Brown - Report
2329 GMT [Dow Jones] Babcock & Brown (BNB.AU) could attract some interest after U.K.'s Independent newspaper reported that Kohlberg Kravis Roberts is running rule over group, citing an infrastructure industry source. Report says HSBC also rumored to have done the same. Sydney-based spokeswoman for HSBC says group doesn't comment on speculation, Babcock & Brown spokeswoman also declines comment. Report says KKR declined to comment, Hong Kong-based spokesman not immediately available. Investors wouldn't be completely surprised to see other groups look over BNB and its funds given sharp falls in market value in recent weeks, but given around 40% of shares are held by staff, could be hard for a buyout to succeed. BNB last at A$6.42. (LMF)
